Winter a time for reflection!

As this year seems to have petered out under the blanket that is covid-19 it feels as though nothing has been achieved! Boy how wrong could we be? Nature hasn't stopped and as a family we have been there to witness it. Spring saw us foraging for greens into summer there we took nature's gift of fruit until late summer when mushroom season started. We have done a few courses this year and due to the pandemic we have appreciated that time with like minded folk a lot more, the fire seemed to burn more intensely the conversation made us more content. So then we moved into autumn and preparing for samhain making our home ready for remembering our ancestors. On to my favourite time of year! The season of reflection and celebration...winter! This winter we have been reflecting on what we can do better as a family to help our fellow humans in time of national crisis where best can we place our efforts, it dawned on us that actually we haven't been doing too bad already teaching people to feed themselves and their families for free has got to be a good thing surely? So now as advent has started it's time for us as a family to get the house ready again this time we are celebrating not for the years in front of us but how we has a nation have overcome the year gone. This year we decided we would buy off small businesses we would make our own decorations and even make our own foraging themed advent calendars for the kids one different foraged item per for 25 days obviously our favourite part is the mushrooms! It's time to look ahead we need to be like the rest of nature and keep plodding on being close to each other not just in person but in spirit too. We hope you have an amazing festive season and a happy new year!

Love from all the team at

The feral yamyam bushcraft school.
